Guaicuruan

This group collects members of the Guaicuruan family and its closely related Mataguayan (Mataco) branch, together often called the Mataco-Guaicuruan stock, historically spoken across the Gran Chaco region of Paraguay, Argentina and Bolivia by peoples including the Toba, Mocoví, Pilagá and Wichí. The two branches are grouped together here because the report's own proposed scheme treats them as one Chaco-region unit rather than splitting a stock this small into two headings. Placement follows each member's own description naming it Guaicuruan, Mataguayan, Mataco-Guaicuruan, or a named Chaco language of this stock.
