Cariban

This group collects members of the Cariban family, spoken across the Guiana Highlands, the Orinoco basin and scattered pockets of the Amazon and Brazilian interior. Cariban is one of the major indigenous language families of northern South America alongside Arawakan and Tupian, and the languages placed here range from large living communities to small, poorly documented or extinct branches recorded mainly through historical wordlists. Placement follows each member's own description naming it Cariban or Carib.
