Ngarla is a Pama-Nyungan language of the Ngayarda branch, traditionally spoken near Port Hedland on the coast of the Pilbara region of Western Australia, and possibly mutually intelligible with the neighboring Panyjima and Martuthunira languages, though the three are treated as distinct. According to the Irra Wangga Language Centre, Ngarla is no longer spoken, though some community members retain individual words and phrases, and UNESCO classifies it as extinct. In 2020 it was named among 20 languages prioritized for documentation under the Priority Languages Support Project while living knowledge of it still remained.
