Garrwan languages

Garrwan, also called Garawan or Yanyuwan, is a small family of Australian Aboriginal languages spoken in northern Australia across the Northern Territory and Queensland. It comprises three languages: Garrwa, also spelled Garawa, spoken in the north; Waanyi, also called Wanyi, spoken to the south; and Gunindiri, also called Kurnindirri, spoken in the southwest and now almost entirely unrecorded. The three languages are close enough that linguists consider it straightforward to reconstruct a common ancestor, proto-Garrwa-Waanyi. A relationship to the much larger Pama-Nyungan family has been proposed but remains unconfirmed.
