Macro-Gunwinyguan

The Macro-Gunwinyguan languages, also called the Arnhem languages, are a proposed broader family of Australian Aboriginal languages spoken across eastern Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory, put forward to unite the narrower Gunwinyguan family with additional branches such as Mangarrayi and the Maran languages. The grouping remains a proposal rather than a demonstrated family, tentatively placed within an even broader Macro-Pama-Nyungan hypothesis; this atlas separately carries the narrower, better-established Gunwinyguan family as its own entity, and Macro-Gunwinyguan describes the wider, more speculative grouping that would subsume it.
