Iwaidjan

The Iwaidjan, or Yiwaidjan, languages are a small family of about eleven non-Pama-Nyungan Australian Aboriginal languages spoken in the Cobourg Peninsula region of Western Arnhem Land, Northern Territory, dividing into an Iwaidjic branch and the separate Amurdag language. A wider connection to other Arnhem Land languages has been proposed but is disputed. Iwaidja and Maung, the family's two most vital members, each have roughly 200 daily speakers across all age groups, while the remaining languages, including Amurdak, Garig and Ilgar, are approaching extinction with only a handful of speakers between them.
