Jawi language

Jawi is a nearly extinct dialect of the Bardi language, a Nyulnyulan language of the Jawi people whose traditional lands are Sunday Island and the islands of the Buccaneer Archipelago off the Dampier Peninsula in Western Australia. It became extinct by 2003, with no known fluent speakers remaining though some partial speakers may persist; the Jawi population was hit hard by an influenza epidemic in the early twentieth century. Scholars have noted that Jawi and Bardi may have converged linguistically within the last hundred years.
