Proto-Algic is the reconstructed proto-language from which the Algic languages, including the Algonquian languages, Wiyot and Yurok, all descend. It is estimated to have been spoken about 7,000 years ago somewhere in the American Northwest, possibly near the Columbia Plateau, and is considered an example of a second-level proto-language whose existence is widely accepted among historical linguists. Its principal researcher is Paul Proulx.
