Rod Ellis

Rod Ellis is a British linguist recognized as a leading theorist of task-based language teaching, on which he has published two books and more than a dozen articles. His research examines form-focused instruction, the balance between explicit attention to linguistic form and meaning-focused communication in language classrooms, and corrective feedback, demonstrating that explicit correction can aid learners' grasp of syntactic and other grammatical features of a target language. He has compiled an influential set of ten principles of instructed language learning addressing how instruction should balance implicit and explicit knowledge, incorporate both input and output, and account for individual differences among learners. Ellis is a research professor at Curtin University in Perth, Australia, an emeritus professor at the University of Auckland, and an honorary fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand.
