Western Romance languages are one of two subdivisions in a proposed classification of the Romance languages based on the La Spezia-Rimini Line, and include the Ibero-Romance and Gallo-Romance languages, with Gallo-Italic sometimes also included. The subdivision rests mainly on the use of s for pluralization, the weakening of certain consonants, and a different pronunciation of soft c than in Italian and Romanian.
