Nara language

Nara is a language spoken by the Nara people in an area just north of Barentu, in the Gash-Barka Region of western Eritrea. It is generally placed within the Nilo-Saharan languages, with some scholars grouping it inside Eastern Sudanic, though Glottolog treats it as an isolate because the evidence for outside relationships is weak. Ethnologue records roughly 73,000 native speakers as of 2022. The language has four regional varieties, Higir, Mogoreeb, Saantoorta and Koyta, with Higir serving as the standard literary form and Higir and Mogoreeb the most widely spoken.
