The Heiban languages are a branch of the Kordofanian languages spoken in the Nuba Mountains of Sudan. Together with the neighboring Talodi languages, they have been proposed as a joint Talodi-Heiban grouping by the linguist Gerrit Dimmendaal, though the Glottolog classification does not accept this proposed unity pending further comparative evidence. Kordofanian itself is traditionally treated as a branch of the wider Niger-Congo family, though that placement is also debated among specialists.
