This group collects members of the African branch of the Semitic family, principally the Ethiopian Semitic languages of the Ethiopian and Eritrean highlands such as Amharic and Tigrinya, kept distinct from this atlas's existing Eurasian 'Semitic and Afroasiatic (Asian Branches)' group, which covers the family's Middle Eastern members instead. Placement follows each member's own description naming it Semitic.
