The Ta-Ne-Omotic languages, also called North Omotic or Damotic, are a proposed branch of the Omotic languages of Ethiopia, themselves possibly a branch of the wider Afroasiatic family. The group comprises four major subdivisions, Ometo-Cara, Gimira (Bench), Gonga, and Yemsa (Yem), each containing further individual languages. Nineteenth century linguists classified most of these languages under the label Gonga and treated them as Hamitic languages of the historical Great Damot region.
