Pama-Nyungan: Northern (Cape York)

This group collects members of the Cape York and far north Queensland branches of the Pama-Nyungan family, including the Paman languages, the Wik language group, the Yidinyic languages and Dyirbal of the Cairns and Atherton Tablelands area, together with the Tangkic languages of the Gulf of Carpentaria and Wellesley Islands, whose own Pama-Nyungan affiliation is less settled in the literature than most other branches here but which this file places in this northern group on geographic grounds rather than leave without a home. Placement follows each member's own description naming Cape York, far north Queensland or the Gulf of Carpentaria.
