The Kresh-Aja languages, more often called simply Kresh, are a small dialect cluster of mutually unintelligible varieties spoken by the Kresh people of South Sudan. Sources differ on how many distinct languages the cluster contains, with one count identifying five Kresh languages and another counting seven or eight dialects once the Aja variety is included. Kresh is classified within the Central Sudanic languages, themselves part of the proposed Nilo-Saharan family, a placement some scholars consider well supported and others regard as not yet demonstrated; within Central Sudanic its closest relative appears to be Birri.
