Oromoid languages

African Language Families

The Oromoid languages are a branch of the Lowland East Cushitic languages that includes Oromo, the most populous Cushitic language, along with the closely related Konsoid dialect cluster. A distinguishing feature that sets the Oromoid languages apart from other Lowland East Cushitic languages is a distinct paradigm for negation. The branch divides into the Oromo cluster, comprising Oromo itself along with Eastern Oromo, Borana, Orma and Waata, and the Konsoid cluster, comprising Konso, Dirasha (also called Gidole), Bussa (also called Mossiya), Mashile, Turo and Gato.
